“Villain” - Annahstasia

When “Villain” by Annahstasia first starts and it’s just acoustic guitars and her voice, I didn’t think I’d be into this track. But then, the song just grows and builds and Annahstasia’s voice gets more intense and heartfelt. Then, the drums come in, and some flutes and woodwinds, then a tinkling electric piano. When the brass hits and her vocals soar, it’s just… it’s just everything you want in a song of this style. There’s a hint of early Roberta Flack (First Take, Chapter Two era) that’s clearly baton-passing in the most wonderful way. Just absolutely fucking brilliant!
