“Cynical” - Sea Lemon

Sea Lemon (stage name of Seattle-based Natalie Lew) is back in action with her first full-length album, Diving for a Prize (via Luminelle Recordings). Lew’s sound, with help of Producer Andy Park, is solidly in the ‘90s dream pop realm. It was actually difficult to pick which track off the album to highlight here as there are so many standouts. “Cynical,” however, has proven to be my current favourite. It’s got a wonderful upbeat tempo punctuated by guitar flourishes while synth pads swirl around dreamily. The sing-a-long melody is top-notch and Lew’s vocals are oh-so-sweet. If this were 1998, college radio/ alternative FM would be eating this song up!
