CMAT (née Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson)’s new single, “Take a Sexy Picture of Me” is one of those nostalgic pop songs that bring you back to ‘60s UK pop, similar to how Lily Allen, Amy Winehouse, Duffy, Adele, and Kate Nash did in the mid-aughts. Already on her third LP (the upcoming EURO-COUNTRY) in three years, the prolific CMAT isn’t short on melodies and story ideas. “Take a Sexy Picture of Me” is an ode to being a woman and never feeling pretty enough thanks to the male gaze that’s drilled in from a young age. It’s one of those songs with a super cheery upbeat sound juxtaposed by pretty sad lyrics. But alas, there is a message in the end: ladies— lets be there for each other.
